All-Time NFL Draft Top 10

Imagine you were starting a new franchise and you could have any player from any time period. Here are my top 10 picks from that draft:

10. Tom Brady

To win with the receivers and backs he's had, maybe he should be higher on this list. He has proven that he can take any team and carry them to a championship.

9. Red Grange

I can sum up the talent that Grange had best by posting a quote from Chris Berman:

"I was interviewing George Halas and I asked him who is the greatest running back you ever saw. And he said, 'That would be Red Grange.' And I asked him if Grange was playing today, how many yards do you think he'd gain. And he said, 'About 750, maybe 800 yards.' And I said, 'Well, 800 yards is just okay.' He sat up in his chair and he said, 'Son, you must remember one thing. Red Grange is 75 years old."

8. Ray Lewis

Ray would make for an ideal defensive and overall team captain. And his presence on the Ravens has made them one of the top defenses for over a decade.

7. Otto Graham

When you lead your team to the championship game for all 1o years of your career, I would have no problem picking you to lead my team. Enough said.

6. Jerry Rice

The greatest receiver of all-time would be higher on this list. But you need someone to throw you the ball and WR would not be my first choice to start my team with. Being at #6 shows just how good he really was.

5. Joe Montana

All that matters is the W. The most successful QB of all-time can lead my team any day.

4. Jim Brown

If his career wasn't so short he may have been even higher. You can make a great case that he was the best running back ever.

3. Peyton Manning

All you have to do is look at the Colts 2011 season. No player in the last 20 years (maybe more) has meant more to his team.

2. Lawrence Taylor

The best defensive player of all-time, LT is equal to a decent DE and OLB combined. Ron Jaworski once called a timeout because he couldn't locate LT before the snap, later to find out that LT was sitting out that play. He's my #1 overall defensive pick.

1. Barry Sanders

Sanders proved that he didn't need a QB or an OL in his time with the Lions. No matter how bad my new franchise would be, if I had Barry though, I know I'd be able to put up some points.

NFL Week 10 - 10 Thoughts

10. Mike Smith has massive.....

It takes a lot of guts to go for it on fourth down on your own 30 in overtime. It didn't work out but credit to him for realizing that stopping the Saints offense probably wasn't going to happen. I may recommend a QB sneak next time though.

9. Andy Dalton has a bright future

Sure the Bengals lost, but Dalton did well against one of the best defenses in the league, and without his top WR for most of the game. Things are looking good for the Bengals in the future.

8. DeMarco Murray could be the next big thing

Just check out the numbers he put up the last few weeks. And check out what he did at Oklahoma. This kid is for real and if the Cowboys offensive line can produce just a couple of holes, he will lead the Cowboys back to the playoffs.

7. Peyton Manning is the greatest player of all-time

What do you think the Colts record would be with Manning at QB? My guess is 7-3.

6. Best trade idea this year: Colts trade #1 pick to Redskins for entire draft

Redskins get their franchise QB in Luck. Colts get a few more weapons for Manning to take one last title run in his career.

5. The Eagles don't have players where it counts

You can have all the CB's and WR's in the world, but if you don't have an OL or LB's, you will not win in the NFL. They did not spend their money wisely.

4. The Baltimore Ravens are the biggest head scratcher in the NFL

You only play 16 games in an NFL season. It should not be that hard to get excited for a game. Especially when you have Ray Lewis, the world's best hype man.

3. The 49ers are for real

They can run, they have a decent passing game, and their defense is tremendous. Linebackers can win championships, we'll see if the Niners LB's can this year.

2. The Lions aren't ready yet

They are a great team, but they're not quite ready to make a run at it yet. Give them a year or two and they will be Super Bowl contendors. But not right now.

1. The Packers are the biggest lock for the Super Bowl since the 07-08 Patriots

They just hope it turns out better than it did for the Pats.
